HISTORY
Cuzco was founded as the capital of the Inca Empire, traditionally attributed to Manco Cápac around the 11th–12th century. It served as the political, religious, and cultural center of the Inca civilization. In 1533, Cuzco was captured by Spanish conquistadors led by Francisco Pizarro, and it later became an important colonial city.
GEOGRAPHY
Cuzco is located in the southeastern Andes of Peru, high in the mountains. The city was originally founded in a fertile valley surrounded by rivers, and over time it expanded across the surrounding hills and valleys of the Andean region.
TRANSPORT
Transportation in the city is mainly provided by buses and minibuses that cover the urban area and nearby districts. Taxis are also very common.
CULTURE
Cuzco’s culture is a strong blend of ancient Inca traditions and Spanish influence. People from Cuzco are called “Cusqueños.” The city has a large Indigenous population, mainly of Quechua descent.
GASTRONOMY
People enjoy dishes like cuy and foods made with potatoes and corn. The Incas first grew many of these foods, and later the Spanish added new ingredients. Today, Cuzco’s food shows both Inca and Spanish culture.

Cuzco "combi" (shared van/taxi) prices vary by route, but expect cheap local fares for short hops (a few soles/dollars)

Bus prices within Cuzco for local transport are very cheap, usually under 2-3 Peruvian Soles
Cholo taxis
Cholo taxis are mostly used for rides under 5 minutes, it's cheap and expected to be under S/5.
