Machu Picchu is one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world and a symbol of Peru’s rich cultural heritage. Located high in the Andes Mountains, near the city of Cusco, Machu Picchu was built in the 15th century by the Inca civilization. It sits about 2,430 meters (7,970 feet) above sea level and is surrounded by steep mountains and lush green valleys, creating a dramatic and breathtaking landscape.
