LIMA

In this section we are gonna talk about some must-know information about the city. 

HISTORY

Lima was founded by Fransisco Pizarro as “Ciudad de los reyes” in 1535. In 1821 Peru declared independence from Spain and Lima became the capital. Before the Spanish colonization, parts of Lima were occupied by the Ichma people. 

GEOGRAPHY

Lima is located on the pacific coast of Peru, the city was originally founded in the Rimac area but now the city has grown over many desert areas. 

TRANSPORT

Lima has a metro network that covers the metropolitan area of the city. The city also has a bus system that also covers the metropolitan area of the city. Some parts of Lima has cholo-taxis also known as “Auto rickshaw”.

CULTURE

Lima’s culture is a mix of ancient civilizations (Lima, Wari, Inca) and Spanish. People from Lima are called “Limeños”, Lima also has a very high population of Asians living in the city. Most of the population are catholics because of the Spanish rule.

GASTRONOMY

Lima is world famous for it’s food, in 2025 the restaurant called “Maido” won the best restaurant of the year. Many dishes like Ceviche and Lomo saltado are world famous for it’s taste. In the 16th century, the Spanish brought rice to Peru which became very popular when the Asians came to Peru in the 19th century.
